Numista mintage numbers are not correct and high price is for authenticated coin in mint condition. Up to French to explain if 90% of those coins were minted, but not issued to public due to significant emotional event two years later. Or standard catalogue mint numbers are correct and numista is wrong.
Or they switched to aluminum bronze in 1938 and removed/kept nickel ones in the mint.
I like this coin, it has a nice weight to it, is a nice size and I have 7 of them - unfortunately all are the 33 & 35 versions, so not worth much! I look out for the Aluminium Bronze version more because they are slightly rarer to find in Germany than the others, then of course there is the Aluminium version which is also fun to search due to the B & C mint marks.
But this version was the only one from 1937, and your original question, maybe there just aren’t that many around to get people interested in these rare years of the Nickel version - although I know if I ever see them I will buy them, and I would be pleased to bits if I found a 1936 to 1939 year in half decent grade.
I think maybe because the design & weight stayed the same and transferred to the Aluminium Bronze & Aluminium Versions the uniqueness of the coin is somewhat diminished, compared to say the 5 franc design before of 1933.
