both are 1946 s with very small weight difference- (my scale can't measure it) is there any visible difference or something? I have 1946 s 5 markkaa unsorted coins and I am not sure where to put them...
The weight is the same. The colour should be a little different. If you have 10 or 20 Markkaa of the 1930-s, the 5 Markkaa 1946 KM#31 should be the same colour, since they are the same metal.
Googling the images of 5 Markkaa 1946 could also help you.
I collect coins and tokens which circulated in Africa from 18th century to 2000. I sell about 7000 illustrated world coins from http://www.avscoins.com.
yeah, it will not be easy- I have more as 20 coins of 1946, I will try to figure out by color, but I am not seeing as easiest way to do that, because I have many 10, 20 , 5 markkaa and they are looks in different shades, patinas, dirtiness, etc. Probably only way how to sort this question is clean some small part of coin and then try to find out what is what. keyword- composition- in Google images I found- uncirculated 31a are little bit more yellowish because of brass.
Hmm.. As more I am trying to see any difference as less I can figure out- probably my eyes not this.. I can find 20 markkaa what is looks the same color as km#31a 5 markkaa... All what I want to know if I have at least one 1946 5 markkaa km#31.
Not sure if this could be of any help to you. http://www.cointalk.com/t202055/
km#31 in the picture seems to be a bit reddish, but it might be due to cleaning.

Yeah, I saw that topic, it made me more confused, because my coins does not looks reddish at all.. I used 20 markkaa side by side to 5 markkaa km31 and km31a and all of them looks the same color : ), except km31a unc, they are shiny. I will try to scan some coins, maybe then will be visible some color difference.. I have another Finnish coins also many British empire coins, India, etc with the same sort of problem- very hard to find right place in database. Probably I need to visit some local coin-collector to sort out this.
