Hello all,

Since 2023,  Costa Rica has issued coins with a fixed 2023 date. I would find it quite useful to order these coins by when they were issued. Could this function be added to the search feature?

The actual Gregorian date (the one in brakets) should be the ground of sorting.

2023 (2024)

2023 (2025)

Or were they all made in 2023 and only slowly released?

They have a 2023 date on the coin but the release date is like this:

So were they all made in 2023 and release later or made in e.g. 2025 and released immediately?  Sort of like the Spanish coins with the initial design date fixed on the coin and the actual mint date in a small star.

These coins were minted in 2023 and are being slowly issued over time. Listing them as “2023 (2024)” would be inaccurate.

Hello,

We could include the date of issue in the existing search parameters.

Here are the current sort criteria:

  • Sort by date: Issuer, date from the yearlines, currency, denomination, ruler, reference number, series, title
  • Sort by ruler: Issuer, ruler, currency, denomination, date from the yearlines, reference number, series, title
  • Sort by value: Issuer, currency, denomination, date from the yearlines, ruler, reference number, series, title
  • Sort by type: Issuer, type, currency, denomination, date from the yearlines, ruler, reference number, series, title

What do you think about about adding the date of issuer as follows?

  • Sort by date: Issuer, date from the yearlines, date of issue, currency, denomination, ruler, reference number, series, title
  • Sort by ruler: Issuer, ruler, currency, denomination, date from the yearlines, date of issue, reference number, series, title
  • Sort by value: Issuer, currency, denomination, date from the yearlines, date of issue, ruler, reference number, series, title
  • Sort by type: Issuer, type, currency, denomination, date from the yearlines, date of issue, ruler, reference number, series, title

The only negative side effect I anticipate is that series of coins where multiple coins are released along the year might be mixed with other series, instead of being grouped by series (assuming there is no reference number)

We now have a date for the start of an issue could we also have a date of end of issue (withdrawal, especially relevant for notes) this one could be the new end point for the ‘in use’ parameter instead  of the demonetization date. There are many different definitions what demonetization means in different countries but  single one for Numista like “ being the end of possible exchange for valid money” would be better, maybe a new word would be needed.

This probably would need its own new thread I guess.

Here is the thread: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic95824.html

The definitions of end of circulation, end of exchangeability and demonetization vary so much from one country to another (and sometimes de from one item to another), that I didn't manage to find a good solution the last time I tried.
