N#48384

Hello friends, I would like to ask for your help in identifying this coin. These two coins look similar: N#48384 and N#351447, but some details and lettering seem different to me. Could someone help? 31.5mm

You already identified it. N#351447

HRE emperor Mathias puts it in 1612-1619 range.

Lettering and size does not fit 28 stuivers. There is also 3 stuivers. I can't find their lettering details, but your coin is probably too big.

My problem with this one is that it ends in "ZWO", while mine ends in "ZWOL". Agree?

Period lettering consistency was not consistent. :) I have 10 different spelling/mark variants for 3 groschens in my country in one year.

Standard world coin catalogue puts them all under same id. They even assigned same id to 28 stuivers with different emperor names.

You probably need Pieter Verkade's book (https://en.numista.com/literature/volume.php?id=120) to check for variations.

Tokul is correct that small spelling differences were not considered variants at this time.  The lettering ZWOL is known (see image at far right):

In fact, in HPM the obverse and reverse legends are listed like this to show how much variety exists:

MATTH(IS) I D G (ELEC) RO IMP SEM AVG(VST)

MONE ARG(ENT) (IMPERIA) CIVI(TA) ZWOL(L)

The HPM catalog also cross-refrences Verkade 176.4 and 176.5 for this type, and the coin in the above image was attributed as Verkade 176.4. Probalby that means the version dated 1618 is Verkade 176.5.
