1888 Cappadocia church token inscription help [solved]

2 posts • viewed 24 times

Hello,

Hoping someone with knowledge of Greek or access to Georgiopoulos's book on 19th century Greek church tokens might be able to help!

I'm trying to find the meaning of the last bit of the inscription on the 1888 Kelveri church token made by the St Gregory Theleologus Church.

According to auction catalogues the inscription in the outer circle reads ΓΡ.Γ.Ρ.Ι.Θ.Λ.Γ.Ε.Κ.Β.Ρ. I suppose the first bit must be Γρηγόριος Θεολόγος Εκκλησία (apologies if this is wrong, I'm not a Greek speaker!) - but anyone have any idea what the Β.Ρ.  might stand for?

Best wishes,

Michael

Someone messaged to save me embarrassment - of course the K B P is probably for Kelveri 🫢

Thank you!
