Penny token, 1811. Æ 33.8mm.
TAVISTOCK * PENNY TOKEN * around Prince of Wales plumes.
DEVON MINES * 1811 * around, view of mining engine in centre, smoke to the left.
Catalogue: W.1137
It’s definitely some kind of One penny token but revers is not very clear to find out which one it is
The only what I could see is some kind of lines under the middle of the coin
This must be some kind of drawing but I would need to try clean this site (im worried this might damage this completely)
Thank you
Not sure. Looking for a token with yes an inner circle,
but also a double exergue, and that horizontal line in the middle >
Looking again, I think this is it >
with an incomplete circle on the reverse, and that thick horizontal ine on the right,
followed by an angled line going to lower right. Those double exergue lines are imaginary,
but nevertheless there is a lot of lettering there - including a 240 number.
It can just about be seen, in the correct position, the 2 and 0 numbers still.
Well … either that, or this >
It looks more like the one what I make picture off
Do you know any way of cleanin/polishing of this toke to get more details of if?
Looks wear, not dirt, so cleaning will no help, unfortunelly. What is lost will not come back.
