Using already existing picture to add a piedfort?

I have a difficult time taking remotely decent pictures of proof coins.  I have a piedfort that is not in the catalog that I'm going to add.  Is anyone opposed if I simply use the picture of the already existing regular strike when I add it?  It's identical, so it should make no difference.  The picture that is used there is far better than anything I'll end up with.

what are you using for your setup to take photos?   All you need is a flat table, a sheet of white paper, and a clip on desk lamp with a bright light bulb and a cell phone with a decent camera.  (I have an arm and a mount for my Nikon camera with a macro lens)

Just try to make sure the desk lamp is above the coin at about a 45 degree angle from the side,  then make sure to position the cellphone camera directly above the coin level but also above the top of the lamp to avoid any shadows. 

Don't zoom, just tap the coin to focus and snap the photo of each side, then take it into google/apple photos after the fact and crop/zoom further. 

This should hopefully help you get at least a somewhat usable photo until someone else can provide a higher quality version. 

I personally feel that a blurry or low quality authentic photo is better than a misrepresentation. 


Also,  if you don't have a way to edit the background out, just share them here and I'll toss them into photoshop and remove the background. 

I can experiment some, but the coins are identical other than the thickness.  I don't think it's accurate to call it a misrepresentation.  If I didn't tell you which it was, it would impossible for anyone to determine.

It shouldn't be done although it's seems to be done often in Numista.  For example: here where the same picture is used for different countries and different mints.  Good luck trying to find variations in coins from different countries/mints using the Numista catalog.

Is this such a great picture it deserves to be used multiple times?

The Catalog guidelines state: If several coins share an identical face, do not reuse the same image for multiple coins.

My opinion is, if you don't have a usable picture, leave the pictures out, state in the comments section the coin design is the same as xyz.  

If the same pictures are used eventually someone will notice and ask for them to be removed.

I only say that because I'm too inexperienced to spot any differences even if there were some.  I personally photograph every coin in my collection so I don't often see the default numista photo's anyhow :) 

 I just think if possible it would be better to use your own photo or just leave it as no photo and include a comment linking to the other coin like rsirian1 said. 

Items in catalogue should have original images, not reused ones.
