I went to my local coin store the other day and he had rolls of different copper ounces. I bought some for 3 dollars each just because I think they look awesome   Any thoughts?

Very pretty rounds. I think they make a nice addition to any collection.
They do look cool...I got one when I made a coin purchase online....however 1 oz of .999 copper is only worth about 25cents US or so

Which is exactly why I bought two last year and haven't bought any since. They look nice but are bullion and should be treated and bought as such.
We have a bad experiences with copper bullion threads (coinsoldier  ;( ).

True, and I should know that (I am swapping with him and I got his coins, but he didn't get mine yet).

As a guy who loves copper, yes those are nice!  :wiz:
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
Hooray - I bought these five rounds in December, and just now found where I put them!
A quick picture of each side ...

Pictures could be better; it is evening here now so not the best light - and I do not want to take them out of their self-seal bags, so there is a bit of reflection under the lighting. I added a U.S.A. quarter below them for size comparison; the quarter is 24mm and the rounds are a large 39mm, so are bigger than I expected when looking at pictures of them before buying.
I got them as one was listed as 'error', and after winning it I looked at other items from the seller. On top row the middle round is correct, and the error is on the top right, where the Christmas tree has the wrong reverse. Top left is a BitCoin, lower left is Liberty, lower right is a Cannabis leaf.

Still poor lighting pictures, but they show more detail. I love them all !

EDIT: Now a few days later, and I made new pictures, but left the originals on top for comparison.  :)

You mean an actual BitCoin, or a copper round like my one?
I'll see if I can find the seller's name - ah, found it; he is in USA and has 62 items listed currently >

He has five altogether in one lot currently ...

I got mine one at a time ($2.99 each) as the seller had Buy It Now individual listings; the above however is Auction listing and is for five of them. Currently 10 bids and $50 bid so far with 3 hours to go.  8.

These rounds come from the mint in rolls of 20, and he has a roll on offer also ...

There are 25 hours to go with $151 bid by 13 bidders - so far. Interestingly I see information below that listing with more details >

QuoteLot of 20 (1 Roll) X .999 Fine Copper--BITCOIN~Circuitry Round

20--.999 Fine Copper--BITCOIN~Circuitry Round--Weight 1 AVDP OZ Each

These are new and uncirculated. Minted in .999 fine solid copper, with an approximate diameter of 39mm.

The original Bitcoin concept was created in 2009 as a complete and total "Digital Currency". The idea is to have a decentralized currency that can be transferred from person to person over the internet, without using a BANK. The total number of Bitcoins is permanently set with a calculated release, as time goes on the rate at which they are released decreases until it hits a maximum of 21,000,000. By doing this they eliminate any inflation after the final number has been released.

A joint effort between MJB Metals of the UK and the AOCS takes this concept to the next level by actually minting it in .999 fine copper! These rounds were produced in an effort to support Bitcoin and share the message of Bitcoin, as well as stimulate thought amongst people to question what "money" really is.

Located on the obverse of this round you will find the Bitcoin symbol centered within the middle of an intricate circuitry background. Written in a "digital" type text is the verbiage: "Bitcoin", "Digital", "Decentralized" and "Peer to Peer" -- (the key features of the Bitcoin currency). You will also find the weight and purity as well as "MJB Monetary Metals" located on the obverse.

Located on the reverse you will find an intricate circuitry design which leads to a computer chip on the upper left hand side with the verbiage: "AOCS Approved", "MJB" and the year "2012". Very neat looking round and well made!

These aren't really bullion coins, they're pretty collection items. Since copper sells for about $3 per pound - unless you're buying big ingots of the stuff you're not buying it for the bullion value.

P.S. I today added new better images below the existing ones (Posted: 17-Apr-2013, 08:45PM), but left those originals there for comparison. Example of one of the new pairs of images that I made...

ZACC SHOULD BE IN ???

Thanks James - that is a nice round!
That first lot (5 rounds) had 13 bids and sold for $81 + $11.48 postage so $92.48/5 = $18.50 nearly.
The second lot (20 rounds) had 19 bids and sold for $310 + $23.95 postage so $333.95/20 = $16.70 nearly. I see has no more currently for auction. Maybe I'll bid when he does, as I like them!
Incidentally, I found one other that I got from somewhere else in USA, and it is the same as the round at the start of this Topic - the standing Liberty one. There was no entry on here so I created a page ...
