2 Euro Germany – 2012 Bayern with Neuschwanstein Castle – Possible Mint Error

3 posts • viewed 161 times

Hello Numista community,

I recently found this 2 Euro coin from Germany dated 2012, and it features the inscription "BAYERN". However, the design on the coin shows Neuschwanstein Castle.

From my understanding, the official 2012 Bundesländer series coin for Bavaria (Bayern) should depict the Regensburg Cathedral, not Neuschwanstein Castle – which belongs to the 2016 issue.

Could this be a minting error? Or is it possibly a fantasy issue?

Photos of both sides of the coin are attached for your reference.
Any feedback or expert opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!
