You talking about US 1943 1 cent coins. They should be steel plated zinc. If you are first thing is to see magnetic. If they are they are just copper plated.

They are canadian non magnetic

To me a common coin. Made 89111969 of them, value .08 to 3.oo depends on grade. I have 26 of them in swap list. But from your father to you more value to you.
