Series dedicated to the Chinese zodiac. The Chinese zodiac is a traditional classification scheme based on the Chinese calendar that assigns an animal and its reputed attributes to each year in a repeating twelve-year cycle. Chinese folkway held that one's personality is related to the attributes of their zodiac animal. The twelve zodiac signs are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
The series consists of five coloured coins of different denominations (1000 and 2000 Shillings) and composition (copper-nickel and silver), issued between 1995 and 1996. The obverses depict the coat of arms of Uganda (among other elements), and the reverses depict the zodiac coloured animal for the issuing year.
