Irish coin verification [solved]

8 posts • viewed 78 times

hi everyone

I just got a coin and struggling with verification

Any help appreciated

I thin this is a Irish coin but not sure

one side has crown and letters CR under the crown

other side has number 3 in the center

 What is the diameter?

Cannot see the 3 number.

Some lettering   CAR   MUM   AUE   perhaps.

20mm and there is definitely no 3 on second pic:)

Now that I have cropped them, I now see

a thistle (and 71 below it) on second picture.

So rather than Irish it may be Scottish.

[20mm]

So CR may be Charles Rex and may be one of these two

N#43965 [20 mm]

N#63398 [19 mm]

May be that first link, as top right of

the CR are the II letters - for Charles the Second.

Obverse: Crowned 'C R II'

Lettering: CAR D  G SCOT ANG FRA ET HIB R

Translation: Charles, by the Grace of God, King of Scotland, England, France and Ireland

Reverse: Thistle

Lettering: NEMO ME IMPVNE LACESSET

Translation: No-one shall hurt me with impunity

I have made a request and uploaded brighter pictures for that page.
