Could this be the end of the USA 1 cent coin?

What do you think?

Personally, I will be glad to see the US coin go the way of the Australian, Canadian and pre-Euro Dutch pennies. Especially the zinc ones that practically dissolve if you leave them out in the elements.

They are unnecessary, and I believe unwanted by the majority of US residents.

Sad to see it go. Started my first coin collection in a little blue Whitman folder in 1955. Always been my favorite. Been involved in the NGC Registry for many years now and of course have expanded my catalog but Lincolnshire are still my favorite.

If you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything

So what do you do when your change is under a nickel?  Seems like a composition change would be better than eliminating the series/denomination

Hi crruisercharlie.  Presumably, rounding up or down for cash payments will be used just like when Canada discontinued their penny.  Digital payments won't require rounding.  Most scenarios are described in Canada's documentation when they discontinued their penny here:

Many countries have already done this.  The procedures are well documented.  Although we have absolutely zero documentation or further guidance from the current U.S. administration, one can hope that documentation will be released later.
