@LDC63, you must edit the first post and select this option at the bottom: 😉

This message aims at…  requesting a new tag

But there are many suggestions, perhaps you should create a topic for each (or for each group).

Some comments…

Places add Amusement Park

Requested here: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic141098.html

LDC63

Buildings add Stadium

Particular case of Sports venue https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?k[]=149

LDC63

Sports add World Championships

It is a “Games and sports event”, not a sport.

Wanted & swap list (euro coins & world coins, exonumia and banknotes circulated) https://goo.gl/AQjfKp - I have euro & world CC coins for swap.

Train change to Train or Tram

Maybe a more general name…

  • Name: Rail transport
  • Description: Train, tram, funicular, metro, atmospheric railway, light rail, etc.

LDC63

Famous people add Writer or Author

This is equivalent to Artist + Literature.

See comment at the end of this message https://en.numista.com/forum/topic78606.html#p673298

Landscape add Countryside

Landscape add Coast

Landscape add Road

Landscape add Woodland

+1, except Road.

Landscape category has natural landscapes (Desert, Lake, Mountain, River, Sea) and Road is not natural. Maybe Road is better matched with Places (Beach, Park, Region, Town).

Organisations add European Union

I do not know… Now, Organisations has international organisations (FAO, Red Cross, UNESCO, UNICEF, United Nations, WWF). If regional organisations are added… they are many!

Astrology add Zodiac

Buildings add Bank or Mint

Town change to Town or City

Hi David

Many thanks for giving my suggestions some thought.  Recently, I've been working my way through the catalogue correcting some of the errors and mistakes that have sprung up since the website was upgraded last year, specifically where individual items are labelled as both Token and Medal on the same page.

The suggestions I've made have come from my attempts to improve the tagging of tokens and medals at the same time that I've been correcting the misidentification of these items.  All I've tried to do with this list is flag up some of the difficulties I've had with finding an appropriate tag.  Clearly, you have a better understanding of how the system of tags works, so I'm happy to go with your suggested changes. Just be mindful that there seems to be a lot of items, whether they be coins, medals or tokens, that cannot be tagged at all at the moment because of the somewhat limited list of tags we currently have.

Again, many thanks

Also I am not sure why both Bird & Eagle exist as separate tags…nothing else is like that.  It should be Bird and the tag eagle removed

We have many such cases: Bear, Camel, Elephant, Rabbit is a rodent and eagles are some if not the most popular animals on coins and that people like to collect.

A decision needs to be made whether tags should be for every user case or more generic then…because we have a halfway house as it is…

For me, more is better.

You have to put yourself in the position of the user who may not have any great knowledge of coins but is trying to search the catalogue for something they may have found.  A more accurate description of the item is far better than some sort of generic or obscure category that just produces a long list of irrelevant alternatives.  Yes, we will have gaps, but that is why we have the forum, so that the knowledge or other users can then be applied.

Maybe this will help to reduce some of the ‘nuisance traffic’ we are getting atm (i.e. ‘’can you tell me what this coin is worth?'').  In other words, I've had a bit of a look (and maybe even used the tag system), but there are too many coins, tokens or medals for me to sort through.

Thanks for all your contributions so far

Would it be possible to add a ‘Skating’ tag to the sports section please?  There are a number of medals and tokens with skating and no tag has been used, so it would seem as though this is somewhat overdue.

Can we have Grapes and/or Wine added as a tag too please.  This is also a reasonably common theme for medals.

It would also be nice to split the Music into:

Instruments

Musicians

Composers

Festivals

Carnival or festival

Agreed - I have also been finding lots of bells whilst looking through the Medals and Tokens, so some sub categories could be good, maybe something similar to sports.

Clocks and time come up often too, as do charitable organisations such as the Lions Club, and Free Masons, as well as others too.

There are an awful lot of banking or finance related medals too, especially in Germany, but nothing seems to cover this option.  We do have industry as a tag, but that doesn't really cover banks or stock exchange medals, or even retail shops.  There is also nothing to cover coin clubs, which there are lots of medals from, or anything for pottery or ceramics, or for busses or trams.
