unidentified runic(?) coin [solved]

Hello, just bought an unidentified coin. Now I assume, it is a runic coin as chatGPT  could identify the runic letters which I identified on the coin and wrote on a piece of paper as LMEORL :

  • First symbol: Resembles the rune "Lagu" (ᛚ), representing "L."
  • Second symbol: Looks like "Mannaz" (ᛗ), representing "M."
  • Third symbol: Similar to "Ehwaz" (ᛖ), symbolizing "E."
  • Fourth symbol: Possibly a decorative or symbolic circle, though it might be intended as a variant of "O" or "Dagaz" (ᛞ) stylized as a circle.
  • Fifth symbol: Close to "Raidho" (ᚱ), indicating "R."
  • Sixth symbol: A repeat of "Lagu" (ᛚ), possibly another “L.”
  • Can anyone give me a hint, if I am on the right track? Many thanks in advance!

Buongiorno…runico…?  A me sembra ci sia semplicemente scritto LABORA o LABORAT.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes LABOR or LABQR was also my first impuse. After unsuccessfully checking for the letter-combination on numista and on OCRE I magnified the letters and had drawn what I could see on a piece of paper. ChatGPT had identified this as runic - so: here I am… ;) !

If runic can be excuded, I would be happy to get a hint, where it could be from…

Best,

Peter

Two other hints from you would help - the other side, and the diameter.

Hi,

As it seems too round to my eyes to be old, this one is not in our catalogue (but the gold one) and would match “LABORAT”:

Having the observe of the coin would help.

Best Regards

Not bad, but that lettering is slightly closer together

than on the item. Also there seems to be small items just below the lettering,

as well as some more lettering at the lower part, one of which may be M letter.

Already thanks a lot for Your kind help. Yes, there is information missing: the diameter is 29-30 mm. The otherside of the coin seem to show a head looking left.

Thank again (and in advance),

Peter

 Thanks. Summary:

[29-30 mm]

Shame no lettering visible on that side,

also it reminds me of Louis XVI of France.

Example: N#27468

I always wondered if it were a jeton, made in Nuremberg for France.

A royal portrait one side, and a design on the other with Latin lettering around.

Still looking …

Looks like a French Denier or Sol

If so, this is about the size.

The portrait is similar, and LA is in lettering.

N#4007

 For comparison

So still Louis XVI and it also shows those three small items below the lettering.

Then the poor lettering was not LABOR but LA LOI instead. Maybe.
