Bank tokens

This message aims at: suggesting an idea to improve Numista

We have numerous bank tokens (e.g., this one from Lower Canda) wrongly designated as “Merchant tokens”. Can we please add “Bank token” to the list of types so these pieces can be properly described? Some are currently listed as “Official necessity coins” (such as this Bank of England token) but that can't be used to describe many. There is currently no way of requesting a new type in the coin forum, hence my posting in the website forum.

Former Numista referee for banknotes from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Saint Helena.

I agree with this, the term “Bank token” is a well-established one, which also applies to tokens issued by the Bank of Ireland in the early 1800s.
