Shipping costs for exchanges

6 posts • viewed 112 times

Greetings to my colleagues - girls and boys all over the world.

Today I'm already reading two posts about SWAP options -The first one only asks for Portugal at home, with an exception for Europe, the second collector would only exchange with a collector in the USA. The justification is everywhere the high costs of postal services.

Colleagues, maybe it's time to start thinking about balanced costs of mutual exchange

In order for the purpose of the website and the mission of the hobby to be meaningful, they propose that in these really large differences, the average cost for one party should be agreed upon by both parties, and the other would compensate for the common costs.

I have already proposed a platform via "Revolut" in the past, but now just a valid banknote in exchange or a coin would be enough.

This is so that we don't gradually freeze the USA and the EU itself. We are all afraid to send coins to Asia.

I don't know what the situation is in post-Brexit Great Britain (it certainly achieved the desired cheaper and better situation by leaving the EU) But now I read that a Czech businessman is buying the British Post Office, so I think it will go smoothly.

I'm just trying to propose this solution for the benefit of the collecting hobby.

My way of avoiding these astronomical postage (and customs!) fees is swaps/purchases through friends in different countries who can serve as “relays” - accepting coins sent to me (and eventually bringing them to me) or taking my packages abroad and sending locally to my swap partner. The only downside of such arrangement is the time it takes, although, with excessive postal services times (often 2-3 months!), it becomes less and less felt.

So far, such standing arrangements I have with the USA, Canada, Croatia and Serbia and am in the middle of swap with a Columbian collector via his Israeli friend.

Maybe it's time we start organizing our own “postal coach” along these lines?

Completely agree with the "swaps/purchases through friends in different countries who can serve as “relays” example if you want to swap with someone from Cuba and live in America. You'd first have to mail to Mexico to ship to Cuba.

please don’t take my responses seriously

Not really. Costs are about the same from US to Cuba as from US to UK. A little more paperwork.
