Help to identify a Russian Empire coin [solved]

4 posts • viewed 66 times

I didn't find in Numista. Thanks.

6.82 g
⌀ 27.8 mm

Such pattern was used only by Anna (1730-1740) and Elizabeth (1741-1762).

Yours has remains of “Denga” in Cyrillic. Half kopeck.

Search for non precious coins in Russia in 1700-1800 period and you will see them. If you go into 18xx, you will see how design changes.

Thank you.

So this one is not a coin but a token?

It looks like a coin. But it is worn to the point where it is impossible to identify year. Time is not kind to pure copper coins.

Lettering would be

--

ДЕ

НГА

year

--

Only two year digits visible. 11 would point at Peter, but he used letters instead of ornament on edge. 1811 would be Alexander, but his designs are different.

Denga is Russian denomination for ½ kopek.

I think numista combined all those ornamented dengas under N#11217

From numismatic perspective I don't see the reason to counterfeit it.
