Grece - Horned Zeus - Eagle

13.55 g. - 23.11 mm

This coin is of very good quality, so I thought it would be easy to identify. It is probably a tetradrachm from Alexandria. But which one exactly? Zeus and eagle are obviously not enough!!! The legend on the reverse seems interesting, as well as the L K Γ.

Can you help me to identify this coin.

The legend just says ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙ[ΛΕΩΣ] which doesn't narrow down much ;)

However searching for Ptolemy Year 23 leads to this:

I'm not familiar with this series at all so wouldn't like to claim this is a definite match, given my ignorance.

Hello, it seems you have found the right type… It is great !!!

Thanks a lot…

I am very impressed. Knowing precisely what I am looking for, I can't find other occurrences of the same coin… not in ACSearch, Wildwinds, etc. with L KΓ… I am truly impressed.

Just FYI, you can use Google Image search to help pinpoint the coin's attribution. Note that it found the reverse in another site:

A gallery of my coins and artifacts can been seen on FORVM Ancient Coins

I use Google image search all the time but with less success!!!

Thanks a lot
