Hi

I didn't search the forum on this idea. What if there would be a field on each commemorative piece, where you could put in a historic date (or simply take the date from mintage field), on which certain historical event happened. On another specific page one could see through the numismatic lens what happened in history on this day.

It may seem not being important to the Numista, but it might be an interesting site to visit from time to time…

There should probably also be some rules on when a certain date can be added, eg:

  • birth dates
  • death anniversaries
  • independence day
  • proclamation of some sort day
  • important battles
  • enthronements
  • achievement days (eg. landing on a moon type achievements…)
  • first day of something (eg. first flight, first climb…)
  • pieces issued on a day of first opening (museum, fair, canals…) or first emission of something (like first ship launching, first day of public train introduction…)
  • ceremonies
  • and so on…

You could at least have on this day XYZ coin or banknote was demonetized.

If we stored the date on coin releases that could also be included.

And then make it searchable (by full date or just month and day) – and have a link to “today's items” on the home page.

Of course you need to specify a calendar. (And it's possible for an event to be special in two calendars but I don't know of any examples.)

You probably don't want to specify the date per mintage line, but that's a thing for some coins.
