Bill,
Yes I recently switched from binders/pages to those coin storage boxes for my world coins. The space, weight, and cost issues were mounting, and I needed a better solution!
The coin boxes are cheaper and more space efficient. I also have a decent A4 Lighthouse album for my “showcase” coins. That's got my pre-1900 and silver (with a couple of exceptions).
My GB collection is mostly in folders, simply because that's how I started out collecting, and I don't have a good reason to pull all the coins out from there, flip them, and store them elsewhere. I also have an Irish collection in a binder with pages. The end result:
World coins - boxes
GB coins - mostly folders
Irish coins - binder, currently
Showcase (pre-1900, silver, otherwise interesting) - Lighthouse album (200 coin capacity)
So in short, yes, I use the coin flip boxes - they are working very nicely for me. I just number them, and it's easy to move coins around, I just store alphabetically based on country name.
The other nice thing about a showcase album is if anyone wants to “see my coins” that's what they get, rather than me giving them a hernia by dumping a heavy binder with coins / flips / pages in their lap!
Downside is I have a LOT of spare pages, and binders… :(
Hope that helps.
