Hello, to all of those involved in swaps with Canadian members - our postal service is now on strike, hopefully it will be over soon and we can continue our great hobby with no more interruption.

even in normal times, Canada post is not reliable unfortunately.

Do you have any alternatives?

For what it's worth, I called the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) yesterday and asked them if I place an order for some Canadian coins can they ship them to me here in the United States (despite the current Canada Post Strike).  They said "Yes".  The RCM said that they've already lined up alternative shipping methods.  They rattled off some different carriers that I never heard of.  But they did mention FedEx as one of them (which of course I do recognize).  FedEx is going to make a ton of money off of this Strike.

Are the postal employees functionaries?

Good question.  I should probably let someone from Canada answer that one.  It's my understanding that they aren't technically government employees.  They work for a Crown corporation.

I read a good one the other day.

In the US: how do you know XMas is near? When Thanksgiving comes up.

In France: how do you know XMas is near? When the SCNF (the French trains driven by functionaries) go on strike! They do that each year before XMas to bother the population the most!

That used to be true but no longer. It has now become:

In the US: how do you know XMas is near? When it's the day after Halloween.

I stand corrected😀

I won 4 banknotes from a Chinese power seller on eBay about a week before the strike.  I thought I'd be lucky if I saw them in January but they arrived last Tuesday (by courier). So yes, a lot of couriers are making a killing while Canada Post is on strike.

Interesting to hear the RCM have set up courier arrangements. It really sucks for the many small businesses & online sellers who use an online platform for the majority of their sales.

Canada Post is a federal agency with employees who follow  under federal law. They can be legislated back to work but the government would prefer they work things out at the bargaining table (according to most CDN news outlets).

Erk! I have to post something to Canada this week.

I sent an envelope in the beginning from Boston to Canada (my wife did). We'll see.

No, employees, but unionized. And the strike goes on and on!

The Fed government sent in a mediator on Friday 13th.

News outlets such as this one, are reporting that they should return to work tomorrow (Tue, Dec 17th, 2024).  So those who sent something here- the item(s) should be in transit again, ultimately reaching their destination. FYI
