I received a couple of nice Swedish banknotes from Stefan0205. I didn’t have either one in my collection. Thanks!

A nice gift from my friend iiruig

Some dollars and a little tiny colorised coin from Canada

Thank you so much:)

A couple of great Chinese notes from Germany.

Thank you so much, Bavariat.

Just gotten my 1914 1 Franc Belgium Silver Coin! A great additon to my collection!

please don’t take my responses seriously

Got some scarce Portuguese coins, a lucky sixpence and very nice and scarce Angolan 50 centavos from 1927, from Goncalo (Guga.lamy). I have always wanted an older Angolan coin, as I collect their early stamps.

Thanks!  A nice surprise on Xmas day. Loved the Portuguese Xmas card too, its on my fridge!

I really hope mine arrive soon to the lucky recipients!

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

I originally thanked  Stefan0205 for a couple of nice banknotes. Apparently I missed the pretty silver coin hidden in a piece of cardboard. Oops. I’m glad he mentioned it! Portuguese India 1903 1 rupia. Thanks!

My gift from Sweden arrived today, thank you ngdawa !

Today I recieved two of the three shipments.

@Leitwolf Thanks a lot for the handful of coins. They sure wil do a great addition to my collection!

@babhijeethreddy Thanks a lot for the two new banknote types!

@mike2112! I haven't heard anything from you. Please keep me updated.

Happy collecting 2025! 🥳

No christmass letter for me, I'm a little anxious…

@Moneytane has your other letters arrived?

@33doubleeagle Could you keep me update, didn't know if you send it and when? Thx

Happy New Year, everyone!

Just a little suggestion to the future exchanges, maybe we should do the deadline for registration and the shuffle 2 weeks earlier so that people have time to send them and to receive them by Christmas. Just a little suggestion.

I can say that your letter arrived … got home yesterday evening after 2 weeks of holidays, and it was waiting for me. Thanks a lot @Alfgard for introducing me into Gaule coins! One already deciphered … one to go … a Christmas gift (or more like a Three Wise Men gift … you know “Silver, non-precious and paper” 😁) with extra work attached to it 🤭

Though also still waiting on my non-precious and paper gifts 🙄 … Postal Santa seems to be extra slow this year

Just call me Bram

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

Nothing arrived here yet, but mail can be quite slow during holidays.

@cobrapel and @babhijeethreddy, did you receive my letters? :-)

Not yet. As usually the post during holidays needs their time

The envelope from @Pott  has arrived, thanks.

I sent it on December 14, don’t know why it hasn’t arrived yet.

2 have arrived, but the 3rd was affected by the Postal Strike in Canada and only sent on Dec 16th or something.

Guga.lamy's sent from Portugal on Dec 6th I think, arrived Dec 21st here

Hibernia's arrived Dec 30th (As its from UK, it was not postmarked as Royal Mail are lazy pillocks)

None of the letters I have sent on Dec 4th from Chch, New Zealand, have arrived yet - says a lot about NZ Post, 36 days (Although only 26 business days and 4 are Xmas related). Most years my letters would arrive on Xmas if sent early in December. My letters went to USA (2) and France (1).

This has disappointed me as each present has approx $30 worth of stuff in it.

If they don't arrive, or arrive soon, I may have to stop participating in this.

I blame this on deregulated postal services and the fact I live in NZ, a country that is the most remote MAJOR country in the world.

Suggestions for next year, is that we allow postage of secret santas from November 20th for people outside Europe and North America.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

Hey @Moneytane don't feel defeated.  You put them in the post and did what you could.  They'll make their way to their destinations in due time, it's not a race.

Not yet but things have been really slow with the strike and things arent to normal yet. So hoping to see it soon :)

Moneytane

None of the letters I have sent on Dec 4th from Chch, New Zealand, have arrived yet - says a lot about NZ Post, 36 days

If none of your letters arrived, there is hope! they are just slow! I have to be patient.

I sent it on December 14, don’t know why it hasn’t arrived yet.

thank you.

I am pleased to say that babhijeethreddy 's letter has arrived in Christchurch and a nice surprise too, some more colour $1 and 25c Canadian coins and modern Jamaican coins I needed. Its like he read my mind.

Loved the Cuban note too - 200 Pesos, must be having inflation there - last time I looked the 3 Peso coin looked like it was worth some money.

Thanks a lot dude.

PS - I think I need to stop doing this as NZ post have proven they are too unreliable to do a basic job. I have never had letters take this long ever.

Score - I have received all 3 of mine, yet none of mine have reached their destinations. When I checked this morning and saw Alfgard was the last poster, I was hoping it would be something about my letter arriving, but alas no - it was something else.

Did my letter arrived @Pott ?

allexis

Did my letter arrived @Pott ?

Apparently it has arrived there but is still working on reaching me. The address that I gave you was a family member's house where I stayed during the holidays. Anything that came after I left would be forwarded to me, but that was delayed due to a snowstorm. Thank you in advance for what you sent and I will post again once it gets here. Thanks!

Glad they finally reached and you liked those Moneytane :)

I really liked them, and I also appreciated the Note, just checked it and realise it has a high face value. Did you visit Cuba recently and forget to cash it in. Feel bad, as its worth $14 NZD which is quite a lot.

I also liked Gugalamy's and Hibernia's gifts too, but I feel really bad none of mine have arrived yet. Could my recipients let me know straight away when they get them please?

If they have still not arrived by say January 20th, is there anyway I can Paypal my guys some money or something as a way to say sorry as this is embarassing. I sent these letters by overseas air mail and put them in a central city letterbox on December 4th NZ time which is a day later than the rest of the world.

That's the reason I only trade with Australia and Europe as I find some Americans may complain when things don't arrive yesterday. But If I am allocated American receivees, nothing I can do - however they have been at least graceful so far about the delay.

Oh no no no.. the Cuban peso value is a very interesting story lol.. so while the Google exchange rate shows CUP to be of a relatively high value, the reality is far from that.

On my trip in Aug 2023, the street exchange value was 10 times that of the Google one - 1 USD was 210 CUP instead of the 21 on Google.

The Google rate is the official government rate for foreign trade payments only. There is the street rate at 10x and most interestingly the other official bank exchange rate within the country that is closer to the street rate (probably 180 CUP ish).

So in truth, the 200 CUP isn't a high value haha.. it is maybe 1.4 NZD.

Ho ho ho

Santa “Pott” Claus finally came through this weekend! And I've clearly made a good impression last year as I got a note for every one of the Twelve Days of Christmas 😄  2 new notes, 4 upgrades and 8 to pass on in future swaps 😍

Thanks @Pott

That letter spent 17 days in storage in New Zealand - absurd, I put all of them in a letterbox on December 4th. Even at the very worst scenario, I expected the letter to be winging its away to Europe by the 7th at the latest. The 4th was a Wednesday - so we can't have had that - oh you missed the Friday pick up and the letter sits in the box until Monday. Apart from Christmas there was no public holidays that could hold things up.

So fellow patient people, at what point do we just give up all hope and chalk it up to bad luck.. I haven't received both my packages :(

For some reason this year just had so many difficulties. All of my recipients received their packages but it was interesting to see how packages mailed at the same time took so much longer for some countries. Regardless I still really appreciate all the work you did arranging everything Leitwolf.

Perhaps we can make a list of those  who didn’t receive their gifts and match them to volunteers in the same or nearby countries and see if we can make sure that everyone receives something? Maybe if these packages have a shorter distance to travel they will arrive better.

I volunteer for the sending list. I am in the United States and have some (circulated)  foreign coins and/or banknotes in my duplicates pile that I would be happy to share.

I'm sorry you don't have it yet, but once it leaves my hands as it did ages ago, its in NZ Post's and USA Mail or whoever does your mail's hands. Like I said, the last year I do this, because the mail services are beyond poor now.

Basically I find 4 weeks should be sufficient. There's a good chance your letter has been stolen, lost of detained somewhere. Its bizarre as the other American got their and the French guy got his. Just bad luck I guess.

My present was really generous too like old $10 and $5 notes worth like $30 each, so a real loss. I blame American Post and did you live in an Area with any disasters lately besides election of morons as presidents?

My letter from @Moneytane arrived this Saturday while I was away for the weekend! Thank you for the beautiful New Zealander notes that will make an excellent addition to my collection!

Thank goodness, glad they made it nice and safe!

Yea, sometimes that’s just how it is LOL.

My last letter arrived on Friday (Valentine's Day ❤️), but I would suggest my secret Santa to be excluded for next years. I don't mind getting regular coins from starting collectors, I'm not that difficult, but when this same user was asking to receive 5 franc pieces for himself in the silver option and then sending out 3 coins hardly worth 10 cents each (choose you own currency) to someone else AND only sending them out February 5th (though claiming two letters were sent out on December 7th)… I feel like I have the right to be disappointed in this user.

Also judging by his swap reviews, his post office seems to have a lot of “returned letters”.

Don't allow this one to profiteer any more!

BTW: since I called him out by private message and asked for an explanation, he has stopped replying … I gave him two days to react, double his max reaction time, so here is my review:
⭐  one star for receiving nice stamps

Happy to be a secret Santa again next year, just not with this user. 🎅

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

I am also shocked that the US Post Office accepted and mailed this letter because it is significantly underpaid in stamps. It needs at least $1.09 more in stamps if the weight is under 28 g. And even more than that if it is heavier.

I guess some postal workers just don't bother returning the letters and send them anyway.

Have to ask… had the letter been opened when you took the photo?

Well, the two pieces of cardboard were taped together, even though that's of little comfort.

I'm more surprised that the cover was not shredded when it went through the sorting machine, which it did according to the OCR-barcode at the bottom. There is a whole lot of envelope with nothing inside. The size of envelope and cardboard should have matched, and then weight would certainly have been less than 1 oz (28.349 g).

BTW, is there an OCR-barcode on the backside?

My last letter arrived on Friday (Valentine's Day ❤️), but I would suggest my secret Santa to be excluded for next years. I don't mind getting regular coins from starting collectors, I'm not that difficult, but when this same user was asking to receive 5 franc pieces for himself in the silver option and then sending out 3 coins hardly worth 10 cents each (choose you own currency) to someone else AND only sending them out February 5th (though claiming two letters were sent out on December 7th)… I feel like I have the right to be disappointed in this user.

If that was a silver coin present, then that member should be banned as 1948 shillings and 1941 nickels are all base metal coins. Britain switched to cupro nickel in 1947. In addition all those coins are mega common and worthless. Total value of them would be less than 50 cents. That sender is an Ebenezer.

Glad we can express this, my complaint about a poor Santa gift in 2021 got me nearly booted off CCF.

Luckily for me he was my base coin Santa, but as far as I know his silver coin (doubt there'll be a plural if any) has also not yet arrived in the Netherlands. Maybe he'll send that one out tomorrow 🙄

I'm not complaining, just stating facts 😇 … mainly about his "creative storytelling" 🤥

Mr._Investor

Same here, I will not be shipping any coins during the Christmas Season.

Clearly he won't …

Well, as I have not yet added the coins to my collection, I can tell you … it weighed exactly 28.02g. Well, then it's not surprising that his letters get returned …

Scamming and skimming off.

"Son, I'm not mad, I'm only very disappointed in you!"

The next weight level in the US is after 1 ounce (28.35g), so it doesn't require stamps for 2 ounces. But international letters need a stamp for international mail ($1.65). And here only a stamp for a domestic postcard ($0.56) was put which is even cheaper than a stamp for a domestic letter ($0.73).

What a disappointing gift for one of the best secret Santas I had. Why was he allowed to take part in this, with his rating and a few swaps? Maybe someone can explain why is he allowed to have a duplicate account? https://en.numista.com/echanges/profil.php?id=460331

Even as a base coin sending, it lands well flat of the $5 minimum. No dealer would charge over $1 for all those coins and thats including massive handling fees.

This member should be named, shamed and outed as a stingy Santa.

I don't think we all need to know how much each coin is worth - but it is assumed every sender has at least some decent idea of what coins are worth and have enough sense to realise that a US penny, 1 shilling after 1947 and any US coin not made out of silver under a face value of a Half dollar (Unless its like a proof or ultra rare date that is recognised - not ebay rare bunny coins) - is not a sufficient present.

Generally don't send what you don't want to receive yourself.

All 3 of my gifts were on the passable level - 1 was borderline with the silver coin being an ultra worn sixpence that was 50% silver and worth $2.50 NZD in melt ($1.35 USD) - however it was redeemed with a base metal coin worth around $5. Yet like every year I participate in a secret santa, my gifts are usually much better - not to show off, but appeasement as I know anyone unlucky enough to be saddled with me, will have to wait forever for my gift to arrive.

Still waiting for both letters @Mr._Investor sent to me … I guess there is no more hope as they went out on December 7th and December 9th! 😪

I think we need need to ship our mail in November to arrive before the Christmas Craze next time..

@Moneytane the member is question is being very quiet at the moment, and maybe there was just some communication error and he had already sent out my Christmas gift for 2025 on February 5th  🤣

@Moneytane I'd be happy to wait for two months for the gifts you're sending out … please don't stop participating (I want you next Christmas 🥳)

Have to ask… had the letter been opened when you took the photo?

No, it was still unopened. I just removed my address from the picture. There was a card inside with the banknotes inside the card.

A Christmas card to be more precise.

By the way, I would have added more one or two notes if I knew we would go through all that situation with the strike. Thing is that the envelope was sealed since Dec. 2 (and we know the rest - had to wait the whole month until things got back to normal).

And if you thought the bottom stamp was cute, you should check the rest of the series: https://colnect.com/en/stamps/stamp/1538689-Christmas_2024_Illustratons_by_Ziraldo-Christmas_2024_Illustratons_by_Ziraldo_2024-Brazil

Ziraldo was a very famous author and cartoonist of children books in Brazil.

You are being generous @Giobruno. The current gift is very much appreciated already:) 3 beautiful Brazilian notes - a new country for me too YAY!! The strike wasn't in your hands and nothing much you could have done haha. Just adding pictures of what was inside here.

Well, sorry for ‘reviving’ this thread, but just wanted to check if there were any updates since. I haven't recieved my coins yet and to be frank, at this point, I am okay to accept that the mail is lost along the way (alas). I do feel bad about it but understand that there is nothing we can do to stop someone stealing the packages on the way.

Having said that, I would still be interested in participating in future exchanges, but only banknotes as they are easier to conceal inside a card.

Does anyone have any other ideas on how we can make the whole thing more efficient and worthy of the efforts..

Unfortunately, the possibility of losing the mail is not the only issue hindering this initiative; the other is the postage costs, which are very high for just one coin or one banknote.

I stopped for this reason.

Ihave no idea what you're talking about, but if you're asking for valuations you should try the Coin identifications and valuations forum. And, obviously, you'll need to post pictures of the coin as well.

Thought this would be an update post on someone who never got their Xmas goodies, but no another clueless newb, thinking they have treasure. I really think we should restrict these people to the one “How much is it worth thread” until they have proven coin collecting nous.

As a referee, I think you should just really delete their inane question.
