Brass/gold version or fake

I have this coin

- the date is 1868 and looks exactly like this

but the weight is 2.7 and the coin is severely worn and is a diferent colour.. is it gold, brass, or just a bad fake?

Silver can turn a really dark color. I have a few like that as for the weight check the calibration of the scale; maybe it's off a hair possibly. If not it's hard to tell - the coin is so faint. You could always do an acid test to see.

The pictures look bad but the actual coin I have with me here is completely yellow.

With that much rub it could have been buried in the ground and turned color say from certain minerals surrounding it. I've seen coins turn a lot of funny colors and sometimes it's a mystery.

There is I think a brass token that uses the same portait. Check out the token section of the site - I wonder if I havent seen it there. B)

I'm thinking that the coin is a contemporary counterfeit.

Whether or not it's fake, it's interesting to have.
