When I open a forum thread, it is left unread when I use the back button in the browser.

I go back using the back button in my browser (Google Chrome, version 129.0.6668.90, 64bit)

Only after I refresh, the thread is marked as read

This used to work. Only the non-read count on the main forum page would not update when using the back button. I will make a new bug report for that.

Hello,

I have the exact same version of Chrome as you and I can't reproduce the issue. The topics are correctly marked as read (blue icon) when I click the back button of the browser.

Do you have any browser extension that could impact the caching mechanism of the browser?

From technical perspective, I verified that the header "cache-control: no-store", which should force the refresh of the page when you navigate back, is still activated.

It looks like “Cache-Control: no-store” will not be enough soon though:

Details: https://github.com/fergald/explainer-bfcache-ccns/blob/main/README.md

Solution: https://web.dev/articles/bfcache?hl=en#update-data-after-restore

I disabled all my extensions and Chrome was updated to 130.0.6723.92. Problem still exists. Do you have any other suggestion to fix this problem on my side? Other machines with Chrome do work, so perhaps Google is releasing the BFCache change slowly to users (as they are known to do gradually).
