Sudan 10 milliemes KM#55a.3

I have written about this topic not long ago on World of Coins and it is almost certain (although with Sudanese coins from this period you never know) but would still like to ask you about two topics.

So, we are talking about scalloped type, not round KM#111.
By definition in all of the catalogs there are three subtypes:

55a.1 1975 - 1978 Short ribbon
55a.2  55a.2 1978  Long ribbon
55a.3 1980  Short ribbon, small legend

To cut story short, I present two thesis:
(!) 55a.1 from 1978 does not exist.

(!!)55a.3 does not exist as a circulation strike, only proof. Mintage is actually quantity for KM#111, round 10 milliemes 1980 which is relatively common.

I love to be proved wrong, so since some percentage of people who own this type claim to have it - please can you show the images or recheck your pieces?

P.S. Short and Long ribbons refer to the central ribbon part ABOVE the eagle, not below. They differ.

We're talking about this?

Please give the link to the discussion in WoC?

Nope, only about that middle coin in your picture: N#10346

I checked the swap list and there are no listings for KM# 55.1 1978.

(In the past I've found some coins that don't exist offered for swap.)

I do agree to your first thesis. I have been all over internet and I have NOT found one single image with the short ribbon.

The second thesis is harder to agree to, since some proof coins might have slipped into circulation, which makes them into circulation coins, though not meant for it……

Edit: maybe the members, saying they have it, might have mixed it up with km61?

Proof coins that may have slipped into circulation still stay proof coins. A proof coin is not a grade, it's a finish.

I know, most collectors don't, so will log the coin as circulated, because the year line is there……

Sorry for the late answer Ole, and others.

We were discussing it together

It's also very possible that impaired proofs can remind to a lower grade coin. My biggest red flag was the mintage which is stated on this coin from 1980 but not on the common, round type

P.S. And of course, I guess many people confused the two types with year in the ribbon.
