Unknown Arabic Coin [solved]

6 posts • viewed 126 times

Hello all,

So I have had this coin for a couple of years now and it has just resurfaced from a pile of unknowns that I have had for a bit. I believe this to be an Arabic coin solely from the writing but i could just as easily be wrong in this.

Its around 12.5 mm and it is a very thin coin. My guess is around before the 1500s and maybe placed in one of the Islamic states.

Hope this info helps and I can't wait to see where this is from!

It's Ottoman but these rarely show enough legend to find the Sultans name

Is there a chance of knowing what kind of coin this is?

If you think that coin is from 1500s and ottoman, remove 590 from year and put that number as year in numista's search field. 900-1025 year range would put you in 1500s CE Ottoman empire. Or use Gregorian date for year search instead of Year.

Weight and measure your coin and put values +-1 in diameter and weight fields.

Weight, size and matching metal should put somewhere close to coins with similar nominal value.

Distinguishing lettering on period coins that use Latin or Cyrillic is a challenge. Arabic is probably the same.

Hello all,

Bumping up this topic once again because I cannot seem to find the coin. Hopefully more help will find where this is from!
