Help with identification (Before it goes in the bin)

Thought I should identify what this is before I put it in the outdoor round file.  Any suggestions?

23.2mm diameter (excl. loop) x 1mm thick, probably brass.

Napoleon Louis. That points at the country and period.

Many thanks

I'm not sure this is exactly the same as mine (hairline and base of head is slightly different as is the bow on the wreath, amongst other things) but it give me a good place to start.

Your reverse is effectively destroyed and you need info from there to pin point occasion.

In 1867 French released medal for Paris Exposition with his head. Based on ebay images that one came with a loop and Louis got similar hairline as on your medal.

“Caporal au 1er Regiment des Grenadiers de la Garde” has more mature image than 1867 medal. So it is probably from 1870 campaign when French met their neighbors, lost and had imperial guard disbanded.
