Could we please have the year lines for both variants? I have the feeling, that the small version is the more common. I now have both versions in my collection.

Sent a request to the referee, it is up to him.

Has anyone reported a 1949 German (BRD) 5 pfennig coin without a mintmark?

No! Do you have one?

1949 5 Pfenning hard to tell it’s big one or small version ?

Welcome to numista.

Small, see my documentation in the beginning of this thread.

so the version with the small j is more popular then big j ? Means it's less valuable..?

Popular is a strange expression? What do you imply?

I think we need better pictures of the area where the mintmark is supposed to be. Otherwise we'll need to assume it was worn off or even removed on purpose.

Just call me Bram

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

In my opinion the mintmark can not be removed on purpose, in this case, once that would have made the underlaying steel core visible.

...you can run,  but you can't hide...

Filled die. There are probably a few dozen more like it. A die without a mint make would have made 10's of thousands or more and be very common. Here's one of mine with almost no mint mark.
