I have this coin that has fluting, ? all around the edge on both sides of the coin. I do not see any other examples like this anywhere. The indents were definitely from a punch. I wonder if these/this coin was marked for a reason other than decor, definitely not hand added to the coin. Could this be for jewelry reasons? Or was this to mark the coin as either acceptable or verboten?.. Please let me know if you've ever seen this or know facts about it, thanks, Terry

May we see both sides of the coin? The Netherlands never used a 5 Ore coin.

Oh Dear. Im so sorry, old brain, its NORWAY.. I'll send a pic in a minute

Here's whole coin pics

Thanks.  Sorry, I don't have an answer for you.

thanks for the reference to the iron version of the coin. I don't think this one is iron, thanks for your help and interest, take care

You might want to update the title of your post telling that it's a Norwegian coin.

The coin was made of iron only being the cheapest option given the shortages during the second world war. It will cling to a magnet.

The damage around the edge was probably inflicted by someone in a bored mood.

It's similar to the damage on the coins in this post:

Hi, thanks for your reply. To my eye, it looks like the indentations were from a press of some sort, like one they use to emboss paper legal documents. its looks too even to be just invented by hand. Thanks again

It says “bronze” on the flip. Is it magnetic?  If it's not magnetic then it's a counterfeit which might be why it has those edge marks. I think this is unlikely though.

thanks for the reply, I think I got rid of the word in my question finally, and have changed the flip, thanks for the heads up.. all the little things  :-) Anyway, iit is for sure iron, the magnet sticks both sides. I guess I have a vivid imagination, but since I can't find another example, it's likely made into something jewelry don't you think?

take care T
