The history of the two cities of Parma and Piacenza goes roughly like this:

  • Early 13th century to c. 1500 they each existed as Republics/Lordships, with periodic intervention by the Visconti, Sforzas and others.  In Numista, we have Italian States > Parma, City of, for coins of this early period, and Italian States > Piacenza,  Duchy of
  • c. 1500 - 1545 they both come under control of the papacy as a result of the wars that consume the Italian peninsula.  In Numista, we have Vartican City > Papal States > Parma and Vatican City > Papal States > Piacenza for coins struck in this period.
  • In 1545, the new Duchy of Parma and Piacenza is created as a single political unit combining the two places under dukes of the Farnese family.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Parma_and_Piacenza.  In Numista, we have the coins after 1545 split between Italian States > Parma and Piacenza, Duchy of, and Italian States > Piacenza, Duchy of .

To revise our issuer structure to fit better the political entities of each time, we would only need to :

  • change the name of Piacenza, Duchy of  to  Piacenza, City of and include only pre-1500 coins in this sub-issuer, and …
  • move all post-1545 coins from Piacenza, Duchy of  to  Parma and Piacenza, Duchy of.  We could distinguish the Piacenza coins by including (Piacenza) in the title.

@loruca  and @HerveMonaco   what do you think?  I would be glad to move any coins that would need to be moved.

The ruler groups and ruling authorities are  also being created so these can be used as I move the coins:

  • House of Farnese (1545-1731)
  • House of Bourbon-Parma (1748-1859)

Coins after 1545 have now been consolidated in Parma and Piacenza, Duchy of.

I am slowly adding ruling authorities to coins that were already in this section.

I see there was one downvote.  I realize that catalogs like CNI which are organized by mint (not by issuer) show the coins in the two places, Piacenza and separately under Parma.  But after 1545, there was a single political entity / issuer, with two mints, so this will be consistent with the Issuer structure, and with what we have done in some other places like Duchy of Modena and Reggio, etc., where there are  multiple mints within the same issuer.
