The history of the two cities of Parma and Piacenza goes roughly like this:
- Early 13th century to c. 1500 they each existed as Republics/Lordships, with periodic intervention by the Visconti, Sforzas and others. In Numista, we have Italian States > Parma, City of, for coins of this early period, and Italian States > Piacenza, Duchy of.
- c. 1500 - 1545 they both come under control of the papacy as a result of the wars that consume the Italian peninsula. In Numista, we have Vartican City > Papal States > Parma and Vatican City > Papal States > Piacenza for coins struck in this period.
- In 1545, the new Duchy of Parma and Piacenza is created as a single political unit combining the two places under dukes of the Farnese family. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Parma_and_Piacenza. In Numista, we have the coins after 1545 split between Italian States > Parma and Piacenza, Duchy of, and Italian States > Piacenza, Duchy of .
To revise our issuer structure to fit better the political entities of each time, we would only need to :
- change the name of Piacenza, Duchy of to Piacenza, City of and include only pre-1500 coins in this sub-issuer, and …
- move all post-1545 coins from Piacenza, Duchy of to Parma and Piacenza, Duchy of. We could distinguish the Piacenza coins by including (Piacenza) in the title.
@loruca and @HerveMonaco what do you think? I would be glad to move any coins that would need to be moved.
