Are these mostly scams?

Aloha from Hawai'i

I have traded things for 5 decades, baseball cards, stamps, coins, comic books, rocks, toys, etc.  Why is it that the only swap request I receive want to trade modern pocket change for 200 year old coins worth tens or hundreds of dollars?

Aloha ahiahi!

A common phenomena among coin collectors are that they often over value their collection, and therefore ask for coins that actually has a greater value than their own.

Me personally, am sometimes asking for silver, but knowing the coins' worth, I can give 10 or even 15 coins for one silver. Never 1—1. All you can do is kindly deny the swap.

If your looking for world coins, I have lots availavle for swap. I'm downsizing my collection, so if you willing to trade silver for an avwrage of aboitt 10 coins of mine, please feel free to send me a proposal. However, I wish you a great day, and happy collecting!

Aloha!

You're not wrong, there are plenty of “uneven” swap requests, but there is hope…

When I started on Numista - about 5 years ago - most of the swap requests I got were just like you said: some were scammers trying to take advantage of a new member. Some were dreamers hoping to trade up, and I'm sure there are a few kids or novice collectors who really don't know what's worth what. They all offered their pocket change for my silver and and other desirable coins. Took a few months to find decent swaps. Now I have 100+ swaps and all were great! I still get the occasional obvious scam and the forums are full of threads about them. So it's not just you. But stick with it, maybe initiate a few trades, you'll have more luck that way.

For what it's worth, I checked your profile and see that I started a swap with you in July 2023. At the time I had hundreds of nice coins including many many silver pieces like German states and Canada silver. You never replied so I closed te swap in January 2024. My point is that not ALL swap requests you got were for pocket change.
