I have been trying to find a collector with a certain coin that a young collector needs, so found a few collectors who have it listed for swap.

Today I found another collector who has the coin, so looked at his profile and it stated nearly 25,000 coins for exchange.

Whilst looking through this list, I noticed quite regularly that the list contained coins where it stated 300 for exchange, and there was quite a few coins listed in their hundreds for exchange.

Surely, if I only had 300 of one type of coin, the profile of the collector should read 1

I know the feeling, that's the reason why I don't even bother to add some really (Belgium,  France, Italian and Dutch) common coins to my swap list anymore. At the same time you never know if someone who collects  all years would be interested in them.

Cents are money too!

Since I collect by year and mint marks, I love the lists with ALL the doubles!

But if it is just one coin with one date it gives a completely the wrong total. This morning I looked at another possible exchange, and it stated the collector had 121 coins to swap. It turned out that the actual totals of each coin was, 80, 40 and 1. As each coin was a single dated coin, the collector actually only had 3 coins, not 121

Do you mean just the items available in the swap list or “Their coins or banknotes that may interest me”? Because the first is quite irrelevant when you have a well set up wish list/ wish criteria (could maybe a bit more difficult if you are someone who wants each and everything you don't already own.)

“Their coins or banknotes that may interest me”?

Just this line, as I collect by type, but the amount of coins on a collectors swap list, against a coin issued as a single date should only count as 1 irrespective of the total number the collector has.

Like in my previous message I was hoping for a wide range of coins when it stated 121 but was extremely disappointed when it was actually 3.

Example:

Should be For swap: 15 coins

Even more extreme:

Should be For swap: 1 coin

Then only count the year lines with a quantity > zero.

Anyway, it has never bothered me, since those examples are rather uncommon, and you detect it very fast.

Exactly. This post should be in the Numista website forum.

You can put this post wherever you like but it does not change the facts that actually/true is totally wrong.

As shown above, a collector has over 118,000 coins for exchange, but in reality has only 15

If you want it fixed you should ask for it to be changed.

Who do I ask? I assume they would not read the post.

You post it in the Numista website forum under suggesting an idea to improve Numista.

Can this whole post be moved, or would I have to create a new post and copy my first message?
