Swapping at local shows/in person

Good evening!

I am new to Numista and was interested in doing swaps with some of the members. I was hoping I could do some in-person swaps with local members, especially at shows where I could interact with them and others. I also wanted to do it this way to try to mitigate the risks that may pop up when sending via mail. I wanted to know if anyone has done this before, and I'd like to know what the experience was like.

Hi, any luck with in-person swapping? I am actually looking for the same type of swap because I don't want to increase the cost with postal rates, and I also want to add some social elements to the coin collection. I am based in Dublin, Ireland, or Barcelona, Spain.

That's how I started & met some great collectors by setting up transactions beforehand then swapping (in person) before the shows about 20 years ago. I also bought some notes from networking through the CPMF the same way.  I did not swap (via mail) until about 10 years ago (& it was a nail biting experience). Swapping is very difficult online b/c there's a lot of collectors who don't know how to assess a note's grade, don't accurately list what they have & seem to forget that they should make a reasonable offer that matches (or satisfies both parties).  Swapping in person eliminates most of that.

Hello, thanks for the tip. What I was trying to ask is if anyone did any swaps in person, but I suppose sending by mail is the preferred method. Anyone know how coins are usually sent if they are done this way?

Yes, people do swaps in person after connecting at Numista. But, usually, there are 3.5 people that are around you in a drivable distance. And sometimes only 1 person finds something useful in your collection and agrees on a swap. So, not a lot of such swaps happen. But it is always great to connect in person. This way I found a really great guy nearby and now we have become friends and meet together even if there is nothing to be swapped.
