Hello All,
Although a comprehensive reference about restriking logic with respect to Paris Mint medals would be helpful but I greatly appreciate any specific reference/help to understand how Paris Mint numbering on first issue and restrike works. Here are some examples to describe the concern and potential question:
E1- Oriental Science & Scientific medal that is listed in Paris Mint Catalog 4*** as 1973 with 100 examples/numbered
1-1 Same item numbered 3/100 and dated 1973 on edge, this is original issue then

1-2 Same item numbered 16/100 and dated 1974 on edge, I assume this is restrike (not sure)

1-3 Same item without number and dated 1976, this is restrike

E2- Oriental religious medal (I do not have link to any but recorded the spec), listed in Paris Mint catalog 4***, bronze 80 mm 1979 with 100 examples/numbered
2-1 Seen the same numbered 19 and also 21/100 and dated 1979, this is original issue then
2-2 Seen the same numbered 35/100 and dated 1980 on edge, I assume this is restrike (not sure)
2-3 Seen the same without number and dated 1983, this is restrike
The question:
Is the numbering specific to a single year (e.g. 1-1 100 numbered in 1973 AND 1-2 100 numbered in 1974), in this case how to know there is not another set of 100 numbered in 1975 or so? OR
the numbering goes over years (e.g. 1-2 /1974 is in continuation of the numbers issued in 1973 /1-1) till it reaches to the number (100) specified in catalog. In this case the total numbered items will be in accordance with the catalog.
I am still searching for a comprehensive reference that explains restriking logic in Paris Mint as I have other questions regarding the subject with respect to older medals of 1700s or so that will ask later.
Thank you
