Hello,

looking at the following coin (Denmark 25 Ore 1981)

the mintage for 1981 seems very low in comparison to the frequency of the coin:

N#1411

I don't have access to a Danish catalogue but Krause says the same low mintage…

Does anyone have more information please?

Thanks!

I took a look here:

moentkatalog_dk_2f1754640e00dfae4155545dd23d2ab8_p_P.pdf

but they don't give the mintages!

Maybe Krause dropped a zero between revisions?  Anyone have SCWC from 2000?

in the 44 edt, the oldest I've kept

Looks like a zero has disappeared….

Thank you,

somewhere I have a Krause Catalog from 1986 or 1987. I'll have a look in that one!

I just had a look in my 1987 Krause and the montage for 1981 is indeed 1.427(.000).

Still seems strange considering the frequency of 12%.

On the other hand I now have a coin from a relatively scarce year 😁

I've just sent the question to the Kongelige Moent. Let's see if I get an answer.

I found this site confirming the SCWC (Numista) mintage

This was the very fast answer:

Dear Ole Sjoelund

Thank you for your inquiry.

Danmarks Nationalbank does not disclose the number

On 1 October 2008, the 25-øren ceased to be valid as a means of payment, and as of On 1 October 2011, it was finally invalidated – also in relation to exchange at the National Bank.

So no mintage from the source, sorry

This is actually hilarious. The mintage of a coin that is neither valid as means of payment and was even invalidated almost 13 years ago is a “state” (or at least a corporate) secret. Yes, that makes sense – not.

Secondly, where did the SCWC get the mintage figures? They must have gotten them somewhere reliable.

I think, the woman who answered the Sjoelund's email was merely too lazy to dig into the archives. Danmarks Nationalbank did publish coin production figures until 2014 (I have figures for 2004/2005-2013). Consequently, they weren't a secret for many years.
