Anyone experiencing long delays receiving coins from Italy?

7 posts • viewed 204 times

I have several swap partners in Italy (I live in the US) and recently have had some problems receiving coins in a timely manner. It started last fall when I sent coins to Italy last August. They were received in 10 days in Italy, but I did not receive his coins until December.  I just attributed that to bad luck (at least I received the coins!). I started another swap in February, and he received my coins in in 7 days, He sent my coins in two packages, one arrived a week ago (May 20+/-) and I am still waiting for the other. I messaged him and he thought the “war” had something to do with it but seems unlikely to me. Anyone else having this issue?

Thanks

It’s not just Italy. The usps is a total disaster. Louis deJoy turned the usps into a joke just to help Trump with winning elections. It is well documented and not fake news. On top of that, the usps is a den of thieves. The recent arrests from the Providence, RI area is probably the tip of the ice berg. I’ve had three packets of nice banknotes sent to me vanish in the USA. In one trade my package from Thailand went to JFK in 4 days and then 9 weeks to get to North Carolina. It is my feeling that registered mail in the USA is cost prohibitive just so that there is no accountability when packages vanish. When sending registered mail to the USA it seems that usps staff do not scan mail and therefore make the service a waste of money while the mail is in the USA boundaries. Do not blame Italy. I have gotten mail from Italy to Thailand in under 10 days every time. I am not going to include reference list here, you can Google information very easily. It is well documented.

It seems that “travel time” is directly proportionate to the postage we pay!

What was the actual transit time as given by the tracking info?

I;ve got a package on the way from Italy and will report when it comes.

Recently I have had three swaps…all were received in Italy within 10 days. Coming to the US, the first took 17 weeks and 2 days, then 12 weeks exactly and the third is 15 weeks and counting….

Registered mail received today from Numismatica Varesi (Pavia).

Posteitaliane stamp is marked 29 May at 09.48.  Received in central Ohio today, June 10.

Transit time 12 days.

Just another data point for the discussion.

Not the same as Italy, but San Marino.

Package sent June 28 or later, arrived today, July 15, transit time 17 days or less.

Again by registered mail, which of course costs something (not a lot from Europe), but I wonder if this is a factor in your delays?
