Unidentified token - possibly French ? [solved]

Hi, got this token , sold as possibly French, but cannot find it on this site ( I tried image search but nothing returned).

Size - between 23-24mm

weight - approx 7g

material - appears to be lead, or some other heavy metal

thickness - rough, normal coin width one side, thicker than normal the other (kind of wedge shaped)

Hi,

looks a bit like “tessere mercantili” = Italian trade tokens of the 13th and 14th century. But yours is to big and heavy

See this example: https://www.cgb.fr/rouyer-vi-jetons-italiens-jeton-de-compte-lombard-ttb,fjt_090092,a.html

Yes, similar, but definitely chunky rather than regular coin / token ‘feel’. Thought it could be Austrian or German with the double headed eagle ?

You're right, I didn't see the double head.

And the shield on reverse is definitely austrian: N#1941

Interesting though, following your lead, I found an exact match (apart from weight and material !) - 4th one down.

from Lombard.

OK so my first though was right, we can forget Austria!

Oversize can be explained by a larger planchet, as we can see by the outer circle. But weight is harder to explain, maybe a contemporary fake? Exact weight is needed and a density measurement should help to ID material.

Contemporary fake is where I was heading -  the shield is quite crude, and definitely rougher than the brass original …. Exact weight was 7.14g but do not have kit for a density test ….. thanks for help though.
