If no information is entered on the date line, then the ‘?’ is automatically added when you submit.
Do you want the site to automatically tick the ND box instead of adding a ‘?’ if no date is entered?
..or just prevent the submission going forward until they have entered a date, or selected ND?
(edit)
At the moment if you don't enter anything in the ‘Sources’ box the submission pauses with the message:
Please specify the sources of the information.
So basically the same thing but for date…
Please specify the year, or select the ‘no date’ option.
I like the second option with the pause and message prompt. It will force the user to either enter a date, which they might have missed, or tick the ND box if there isn't a date.
I spend a lot of my time validating exonumia entries and I am always editing them to remove the “?” and checking the ND box or sending them back for editing.
Cheers Mike

annoying also when then the person who submitted the sheet ads it in their collection as ? as then you cannot change or delete the year line and have to ask moderators to do it.
Or you add it yourself and then ask the moderators to move the owner and to delete the ? yearline.
It does happen often and yes its annoying.

I would already be happy if I could change the dateline where someone added this dateline in their collection.

I was under the impression that this was about the creation of new pages. Any yes, you can only add your coin to a new unpublished page if you created it.

I personally would like it if on a new submission that the member submitting the new submission was also restricted from adding it to their collection till after approval. I think that to may encourage completion of the page if modification requests are made.

YES it's annoying !
Even when I ask to the member to include the date before I validate, the “?” Line stays.
A member suggested this half-arsed file to me with a line beginning with "?".
In a laborious effort to educate the masses, I suggested a few changes, notably to replace “?” with 2023.
Hello, I can't validate this coin due to the absence of the date : In the field date, you must put 2023 instead of ? I can't make this modification myself. You may include also these following modifications : Title: 5 Pounds - Charles III (250th anniversary of the Boston tea party) Ruling authority : Charles III Issuing entity : East india company Type: non circulating coin Suppress issue date cause it must be filled when different to the date written on the coin Manufacturing technique : milled Alignment : probably medal (face in the same direction as reverse) Obverse designer Glyn Davies Description: Effigy His Majesty Charles III facing left, legend around. Lettering: CHARLES III • D • G • REX • F • D • SAINT HELENA GD • 5 POUNDS • 2023 • Unabridged legend: Charles III Dei Gratia Rex Fidei Defensor Translation: Charles III by the Grace of God King Defender of the Faith Script: Latin Reverse description: Rebellion scene in the port of Boston, legend around. Reverse legend: THE BOSTON TEA PARTY EIC DECEMBER 16TH 1773 Script: Latin Unabridged legend: East India Company. Edge: Smooth Comments: The Boston Tea Party was a pivotal event in the lead-up to the American Revolution. On December 16, 1773, colonists, disguised as Mohawk Indians, dumped over 340 chests of East India Company tea into Boston Harbor as a protest against the Tea Act and the British government's taxation without representation policy. Date: 2023 Othermark: East india company Mintage: 250 Comment: Proof Inversion of your pictures front reverse is necessary, and you might include a picture of your Certificate Of Authenticity in comments. Thanks
My efforts were poorly rewarded, and we end up with two lines: one with the "?" and the other with 2023.
And he added (still a long way before he can create an acceptable file)
It seems to me that the referree or the member could change this "?" before validating the file.
Absolutely I would also ask for that as Referee we can change the erroneous "?" to a date, even when a member added it to his collection.

This is not possible currently.
The same thing happened to me a few days ago, hehehe. I asked him to change the "?" to the year, and I got two lines: one "?" and the other with the year. I was lucky that his coin had been placed on the year line with year, so since there weren't any members on the "?" line, I was able to delete it myself.
I think the user who creates the page should get a warning saying "there can't be a year line with a "?" symbol".
I've also noticed that users, with the new "Issued" field, put the coin date there, maybe thinking it shouldn't be placed on the year line. This new field might be a bit confusing in that regard.
Coin referee for: Andorra, Equatorial Guinea, Marshall Islands, Moldova, Liberia and Spain
Banknote referee for: Andorra, Equatorial Guinea and Spain
… I was lucky that his coin had been placed on the year line with year, so since there weren't any members on the "?" line, I was able to delete it myself.
Problem is I get this every day and most of the times the person adds the item with ? into their collection and then it cannot be deleted or modified.

Simply disallow adding non validated items to a collection (like I thought was already done quite a few years ago … maybe it wasn't technically possible and what I remember was only that you just can't see non validated entries as a third person) and referees have a chance to edit the creation requests and correct them before validation.
Frenchlover …. I admire your patience regarding your efforts to educate the user above. I laughed at his comment “I have made some improvements is it OK now?” …. I have been there too.

Like this if an item gets validated 30 days later I would for sure forget to add it to my collection.
