2017 Canadian Mintages [solved]

2 posts • viewed 70 times

As I was looking through nickel mintages, I noticed that the mintage for the regular strike of 2017 was 106 680 000, while the commemorative Canada 150 was only 20 000 000. I thought the commemorative ones were the only ones in circulation for 2017 and the regular strikes were only found in limited sets? Does anyone know if this is a mistake or I'm missing something?

106.680.000 (or 106,680,000 if you prefer the US system) regular/standard 5c coins were minted for circulation in 2017.

HOWEVER, that does not mean they were dated 2017. Most likely, the vast majority of them were dated 2016.

The number of coins minted which is given in the RCM's annual reports only states how many were minted in a year (here 2017). These numbers do not say that all the coins were dated of that year (here 2017).

The RCM stopped giving the specific information “mintage of coinage dated year XXXX” in the early 2010s.
