Louis XIV 4 Sols, 1691, need help with locating where minted

4 posts • viewed 83 times

hey I have a 4 Sols two stylized Crossed L’s coin from 1691 I believe. The Coin is Over stamped with  DOVICV and something above the bust on the obverse which affects where the mint mark would be on the reverse. The Privy mark is still there on the Obverse.

I couldn‘t find the exact one through a Google search, and was wondering if anyone knew where It was minted, or where to start looking, I would greatly appreciate any and all help.

The Reverse Text reads:

 • DOMINE • SALVVM• FAC• REGEM• Mintmark

The Obverse Should Read:

LVD • XIIII • D • G• FRA ET NAV REX Privy mark  1691

Here’s a zoom in on the Privy Mark (located to right of bust of Louis after REX; Image flipped as to how it would look if you were to read the text)

hello, it's a reformed coin, originally it was a "4 sols aux traitants", instead of melting the "4 sols aux traitants" to make "4 sols aux 2 Ls" because melting them were expensive, they minted the 4 sols to the 2 L on top, so it is a reformed currency, your currency is normal, all are like that!
