Hello,

I got interesting coin.

it‘s Belgian 5 francs 1944 zinc coin in Dutch text which is not listed in the catalog.

normally it should be written in French text.

does anybody know there was test strike in this year?

is it an error coin ? Or test strike?

Does the weight match? Any indication of two coins doctored to make one?

Thank you for your comment.

For weight, it’s 6.2 gram and little bit heavy than catalogue which shows 6gram.

I cannot see any traces of the reverse and obverse being glued together.

The material looks like nickel rather than zinc.

But not magnetic. Copper nickel?

what do you think?

I took a look at UCoin, and no 1944 amongst their coins!

In SCWC it doen't exist either:

I searched for it with google and didn't find any either, so I suppose it is a counterfeit coin?

Zinc is a good bit lighter than nickel or CuNi.  For the same dimensions it should be about 25% heavier. Seems weird.  SCWC does not list any 1944 patterns of 5 francs. This makes sense since they were already being made.  I don't see anything obvious but maybe a closer exam is in order?

Only 2 coins found.

Your coin doesn't look like Zn!

Thanks for both comments.

indeed it’s strange. Maybe need deep inspection.

Anyway I’m glad to have this strange coin for my collection.

Thank you.

The two 4-s in the date are different. The one on the right is slightly higher and the diagonal line is slightly curved.

This is not like that on the 1944 francophone sibling coin. Here both 4-s are equal and properly aligned:

But a similarly deformed and misaligned 4 can be found on this coin:

Fake.

Thank you for the information.

Exactly!!

2nd 4 looks perfectly same as copy item…

I was hoping that this might be a very rare coin, so I was very disappointed to find out that it was a fake.

In any case, I felt that I needed to improve my ability to discern authenticity.

Thank you for letting me know.
