Please Add Pushyabhuti Dynasty under Ancient India Issuing authority.
Link to coin and dynasty as below:
Is it an issuer or a ruling authority ?
Is there a coin on Numista already ?
Pushyabuthi dynasty was both issuing ans ruling authority. I couldn’t find any coins in numista
OK thanks :-)
Please precise your request following these guidelines : https://en.numista.com/help/add-or-modify-an-issuing-authority-in-the-catalogue-191.html
Details below as desired.
The name of the issuer in English: Pushyabhuti dynasty
its Wikidata code: Q28109312
if there are no entries yet on Numista, the link to an auction site or a reference catalogue presenting at least one coin or banknote from this issuer:
if possible, a brief introduction presenting the history of this issuer with any numismatic considerations useful to the reader:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pushyabhuti_dynasty
Obv: head of king to left in maukhari style with crescent above, hint of legend at left, Brahmi letters 'Si' (Sila), Rev: fan-tailed peacock facing left, Brahmi legend around “Vijitavanir ava(napati Sri Siladitya divam) jayati”
King Harshavardhana, who ascended the throne of Thaneswar (Haryana)(606-647 AD), he belonged to Pushyabhuti Dynasty. His coins (Drachma) follow the Madhyadesa type of the Guptas, with the fan-tailed peacock reverse and the same legend terminology. Harsha's royal name Siladitya is seen on his coinage.
thanks
SHould I create a “northern India” section in “India Ancient”? Would there be other existing issuers to sort here?
Also, do you think this coin is related? N#234592
(sorry I know nothing about those issuers, just tried some queries)
Hi, ideally this will fall under Ancient India. It was post Gupta, but pre Chalukya. In Numista, Gupta is Ancient, while Chalukya is Indian Hindu Dynasty. It can fit in both, but considering the coin technology and rarity, would recommend it under Ancient India only. Thank you

Yeah sure but my question was about which section in ancient India? We have already some geographical groups there, I wondered if we attached this new one directly to the section or if we need an intermediary “northern india”
It would be directly under Ancient India Section similar to Gupta dynasty and Maurya dynasty. As the dynasty covers north, east and central indian zones, it may not be appropriate to classify under Northern dynasty. Thank you
OK, issuer is added, you can attach a first coin then it will show up normally 24 hours after :-)
Poke @sujit_kumar :-)
Generally my onion would be to not create a separate dynasty as long as we do not have 3 or 4 entries under it. But it is up to the Numista admins to decide the best way forward. India has a long history with many many dynasties ruling over land masses with borders changing in shape and size. So it is up to us to where to draw the line and how best to represent it in Numista.
