Ottoman coin with greek counterstamp

3 posts • viewed 150 times

Hello friends,

Got this ottoman coin with a greek counterstamp, looks like an μ (might be wrong, I am not used to greek characters)

The host coin is no mystery, it is an ottoman Para:

N#12782

And I see there are several countermarked coins on the Greek numimatic world, counterstamped to be used in the isles.

Example: N#112754

So, anyone knows anything about this counterstamp?

Thank you for any comment!

Hello,

A little puzzling. I don't think it's a Greek “M” in lower case, which absolutely needs a little extra stroke on the right.

What else could it be? And perhaps it needs to be turned 180°?

Just for future reference, found a very useful site with tons of CM ottoman coins with greek characters:
