I don't know if we still log edge scripts here. We did a while back, but it seems like it has been deleted. I might be wrong.

Anyhow, I have two S$1 coins both dated 1997, where one has the edge script the right way, and one upside down. Thought this might be interesting for some collectors. Pictures are below.

Thank you!

Normally it has been “given up”, but I see it's fully alive for the French 10 franc coins, since it's an “important” part for French collectors.

I thoifgt so. To me it's a little weird this detail has been removed from the pages. I can only assume people who collect types also collect these types/varieties as well. It's a little sad.

I have requested to change edge pocture for the page, just to show it exists. Then I let the referee decide.

Since it's a 50/50 chance to get a position A or B, it's not a variant in any way. Most collectors, I suppose, don't bother to check for pos a and b, so their doubles for swap will 50% of the time be wrong, since the coin will be entered in the first year line, probably!

But be careful, since I think the French have used A and B positions  opposite to the definitions made by KM for the use on Belgian coins!!!!!

From SCWC:

So, first we have to figure out if it's a 50/50 chance for A vs. B, or if one is more common than the other. How will we ever know …?

Ask the mint where in the process the edge lettering occurs.  If it in the collar used when the coin is pressed by the dies then one would be preferred and the other an error.  If it occurs anywhere else then it's 50/50.

Cool. Cheers!

For coins where it is known that it is not a random - about 50/50 chance - there we use yearlines to distinguish. For random chance ones, we can include that information in the comment section.
