The New Zealand dollar was 1 of 4 issued in 1989 for the Commonwealth Games, which were in Auckland in Jan/Feb 1990 during our summer. This one is athletics. Also were coins issued for swimming, weightlifting and gymnastics. They were issued in silver and cupronickel like yours.

Thanks. I wont Try to acquire the entire set as I don’t usually collect NZ NCLTs. However one thing that did strike me, though it took me a minute to figure it out, is that the legend isn’t all in majuscule which is usually what one sees on coins. Nothing wrong of course, but its relatively unusual
