Hi,
I was digging into the history of ISO 4217 (the three letter currency code). I actually found out that they assigned a number of official codes to currencies that had existed before the first ISO list was published in 1978. Namely currencies such as first Bulgarian Lev (BGJ), second Albanian Lek (ALK) or second Czechoslovak Koruna (CSJ) but not very many others. Does anyone know why these select few countries had official codes assigned to their historical currencies at the time? Was it due to some need the authorities in these countries had or an attempt at historical standardisation that was ultimately abandoned?
Curious if anyone knows the answer.
