Hello everybody - so I was going through trying to identify a bag of foreign coins that I’ve had lying around for a while, and after a while of looking, I realized that there’s no section for the coin that I have in the catalogue on this page. I have a 1981 Peso with open 8 and open 9 that I believe is not wide date, and the only 1981 variants that I see are Open 8, Closed 9; Closed 8, Open 9; and Open 8, Wide Date. Am I crazy, or is my variant missing?
So here is my findings of the 1981 wide date, which does NOT correspond to the sayings of Numista. In SCWC (KM) it isn't mentioned at all, so maybe we should modify Numista according to this?
If any of you can find other 1981, 1 peso coins, with other constellations, I would be very interested in obtaining hi-res images of the coins.

A CR has been issued.
Comments are welcome, thanks.

You have just defined a new year line, “Closed 8, Closed 9, Wide date” unless the existing “Closed 8, Closed 9” is also “Wide Date.” The OP's coin is clearly another year line, “Open 8, Open 9” since it doesn't look like a “Wide Date” (to me). I don't think we know enough to modify any year line comments. Perhaps, for now, just add the 2 year lines we now know exists?

You're right of course, we miss images. I'll ask allred1950 (Daryl) to take a look in his box with Mexican coins, maybe that'll clear everything up?
I have found around 50 1981 pesos. I am going through right now. May take some time.
Every time i work with these pesos i find something else. Hear is a new one. Look at the end of his bandana. Normally there are two tails.
that is with closed 8.
But with open 8 There is only one
So i pulled a 1978 open 8. Samething only one tail showing
And i just found this from reading this post. Don't even start with the tails or knouts. You have large and small. Touching the head and not touching his head. And the mint marts, close to the rim , and in the middle. Thick and thin. Different M's.
Iam thinking his coin has a small 9 . Making it look wade. I know with the 19XX , you have large 1's and small. Same with the 9's. But i will have to see what i found. I will have to look at all my open 8 to see if they to have only one tail.
It is how far do you want to go at this time at the Mexico mint. Over used dies, and mint worker cleaning and recutting. Alot of changes are made by mint workers. Iam thinking this is a recut die.Thick and thin date
Great work!!! I think the open 9, open 8, wide date is a little questionable but since both your Mexican catalog and SCWC have it and it's already in Numista I think it must exist. So, this is what we're left with:
Now, are you going to do 1970-1980 and 1982-1983? Haha, just kidding. 🤪
Hope you are well. Sorry for being late . I only had 4 1981 open 8. And all were the same. I had some issues pop up. Ole as all ways you are great, thank you
It is, what it is, or is it.

I think this presentation shows the 3 different varieties of the 1981 coin quite well? I have put my former two one together to end up with only one!
Please verify, if I have made it correctly?
This graphic only shows three 1981 variants. It's missing closed 8, closed 9, narrow date and open 8, open 9, narrow date. Both of these variants you have shown in a graphic above in this thread.
I see that the coin page has just been revised to include all five 1981 variant year lines.
