King Rama IX 1969-78 10 Baht note and mystery of the signatures.

The signatures are perfectly listed from 41 to 53 with names in English.

Any chance we can get a list of the actual signatures with translations?

Attaching a screenshot from the siambanknote website. I don't see anything to allow contacting the owner for use of this.

Similar problems whilst trying to catalogue other notes from Thailand.

The names of signatories in English should be accompanied by the actual signatures.

What do you mean by translations?

The signatures are in Thai letters - Numista has the names in English.

Both side by side like the attached screenshot would be nice.

Generally the signature of Thai people are not really in any language. Let me explain.

Prior to 1943, Thai names were generally what we call nicknames today. Examples would be Min for a guy and Chompoo for a female. In 1943 the Thai National ID was created. First names and family names now became mandatory for the Thai ID. The next part is kind of like “What came first, chicken or egg?” In a simplistic way, English names and Thai language equivalents are phonetic representations of each other. At this point, you have probably concluded that Thai people were never taught cursive writing which would be correct. As a result, signatures are often a creation of the individual and not really representative of the letters in either language. If you are really curious, the Thai letter versions of the finance ministers and BOT heads are on Wikipedia I believe. As far as translations of the signatures, lol!!!!

Thanks blue-m for explaining the intricacies of the Thai signatures.

I did search a few websites to get the translation for my notes- see box above.

I was just hoping that signatures like above have a ready reckoner table next to them.

If you are ever wondering about the signatures just send me a photo of the banknote and I can let you know what the signatures are in Thai and in English if you want both. My information is much more complete than what has been posted on Numista.

Thanks for your help blue-m

This site has the signatures - http://www.moneypedia.de/index.php/Signaturen

Previously mentioned by Jcler001 on this thread - https://en.numista.com/forum/topic63275.html#dernier

The site posted by BluHawk is pretty good … as mentioned in this thread there are different transliterations from Thai to English - some are off as they dont translate phoentically or include sounds that are silent.

Good sources are SCWPM, Banknote Book for Thailand (by Owen Linzmayer - Greyshhet publication) and Somchai Ngern's book - Thai Banknote Catalogue.

Examples from Owen and Somchai below
