Synnada was an ancient Roman town in the Conventus of Synnada, Province of Asia, in the region of Phrygia Salutaris in Asia Minor. Its site corresponds to the modern-day town of Şuhut, in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey.
According to legend, Synnada was founded by Acamas, son of Theseus, who went to Phrygia after the Trojan War with Macedonian colonists. It is first mentioned by Livy, as a place visited by consul Gnaeus Manlius Vulso on his expeditions against the Galatians in 189 BC. After having belonged to the kingdom of the Attalids, it became the capital of a Roman district of the province of Asia. Pliny the Elder mentions Synnada as an important conventus juridicus around AD 77. Under Diocletian (286–305), at the time of the creation of Phrygia Pacatiana, Synnada became the metropolis.
The earliest coins of Synnada are Cistophori minted after 133 BC, featuring an amphora and an owl. The bronze coins of the same period show a turreted head of Kybele and Zeus holding fulmen. The coinage continued until the rule of Gallienus (253–268).
Thank you
